Islamic History 103: Era of the Companions

The importance of studying history and its lessons cannot be emphasized enough. With few exceptions, the development of Islām into a civilization is nearly always understated or presented from an orientalist perspective in western academia, despite the advanced means by which it has been preserved. This study will equip students with insight into the life and times of those who built the foundation of our civilization, a civilization that has contributed greatly to the West. “Of all our studies, history is best qualified to reward our research.” – El Hajj Malik El Shabazz, aka, Malcolm X. In this course we will be focusing on the era after RasulAllah ﷺ. Many have either read or have relatively easy access to the sīrah. After this period however, most are uninformed or confused about particular events. This course is designed to help us become more acquainted with his ﷺ Companions (Allah be pleased with them) and the events of their age.
